5 Out Of 5

Last night we had a chance to play the beta version of 1 vs 100. We came in kinda late so it took a couple of trys to get in to a game, but once someone got out, we came in. You control you’re avatar and you get one of 3 spots. You either play the one, the mob, or the crowd. As The One you play against 100 other avatars trying to knock you off from getting the grand prize (this is the beta, so the prizes they were giving out was XBLA points, up to 6,000 of them.) If The One loses then The Mob splits the prizes up among the remind members, for example: one person lost 4,000 points, there were 10 members left in the mob, so each mob member one a arcade game and 400 points. When we were playing, we participated in a match up against 3 other players. Just don’t think you’re playing for fun my friend, no no, the top 3 crowd members also win prizes at the end of each round.
To play this game, you press either A, X, or B to answer the questions and Y amps your avatar up. The questions basically rank from very easy to extremely hard to very tricky but most of the questions delt with pop culture or current events. The trick question last night that got everyone was: Even the most sophisticated fax machines are able to send what? X) fax paper A) pictures B) text. The answer was fax paper and that round ended very quickly for the one and 47 members of the mob. Now the mob and the one are picked at random, so the chances of you being in the actual game is very slim. About 100,000 people participated in last nights live event and we totally loved it. And from what we heard the more you play the more chances you will have to play as The One or as The Mob. There are a few commercial breaks in the game where you see short ads from Sprint or the new Transformers movie…but they are not annoying and kind of work within the game.
The live host encourage users to email photos and shoutout to liveshow@xbox.com. They host would then read e-mails during the broadcast and would encourage lots of user participation. Overall 1 vs 100 on Xbox360 is another reason why Xbox Live is leaps and bounds ahead of any other online service. Getting gamers to participate in a massive online event is just another major achievement for Xbox Live. Nintendo and PS3 just can’t make the level of online satisfaction that users can receive from Xbox Live. Congrats to Xbox Live for pulling this off and WE WANT TO BE…THE ONE
